We thought that this was good to talk about because we've always had different morning routines. And very recently for the last month or two, especially with our dive into fitness and health, all of that has started to really build a stronger morning routine in order for us to fit in the workout.

The importance of a morning routine cannot be overstated.  It creates an opportunity to put yourself first and in turn allows you to take care of others or your career during the rest of the day. Dani holds herself accountable by creating a morning checklist because it helps emphasize needed self care and holds her accountable. For many of us, this is a great tool to help put us in a positive mindset and remember what is important. A morning routine can also be flexible so it changes as we grow and our needs change, generating excitement for the day, creating a positive energy that in turn is the nexus for a daily cycle of goodness. If you cannot execute your morning routine for one day, you will know that you have prepared and it will be there waiting for you tomorrow, like a friend or teammate, readying you for the tests ahead. Our daily routines evolve as our needs and the circumstances of our lives. It is wonderful to wake each day, not knowing what it will bring but knowing that, with a little planning, you can be ready to take on life’s challenges.

Hey everybody! Flip and Dani here, founders of the Freedom Real Estate Group Family of Companies. And welcome to another episode of our podcast, which is called Freedom Through Passive Income. That's right. And welcome to another "Motivational Monday - Power of a Morning Routine". Yeah, you remembered. I got it. Good job. Woohoo! I practiced.

So I thought that this was good to talk about, because it's something that we've always had different morning routines. Yes. And very recently, probably for the last month or two, especially with our dive into fitness and health, right? All of that has started to really build a stronger morning routine in order for us to fit in the workout. Yeah, because we were trying to figure out where to fit in. Right? When we started, it was like, Oh, we can work out at like three in the afternoon. Right. Right? And so because my mind is always just on right in the morning, and I want to dive into work, because it's just there. Anyways, ultimately ended up that we kept on missing the afternoon workout that we've said, Okay, forget it. In order for us to accomplish this goal, we're going to have to change how we approach it.

And so then I stopped having morning appointments, and allowing us to say, hey, we've got until 10am, because we're not doing anything else. Yup. It's us first, prioritize us first and our health first. And let's create this routine, so that we can do it without the stress of an appointment. Right. Because 10 was like a cushion, right? Yeah, it was very good. Like, if we wake up at five. So that gives us five hours, which is insane. But it calmed my anxiety. Yeah, exactly. Because we just had enough time to do it. And then if I got to my computer earlier than 10, that was a win, right? So now I feel really good about the day because I did everything I was supposed to, I put myself first and I started early. And so I got this additional, you know, boost of, you know, excitement and energy, and fulfillment. So this is what I wanted to talk about today. So I know that you have a shorter routine than I do, because I actually created a full checklist of all the things that I want to do.

Yeah, mine is shorter is because mine doesn't involve as many moving parts as yours does. Right. But yes, it's the same process. Yeah. So part of this podcast is to number one, kind of talk through what we went through, and why we changed our morning routine and why it's become so important. And the things that we had to remove, to make sure that we were successful. And in putting ourselves first. And the message of doing, having a morning routine is saying you're putting yourself first, right? You are a priority. And taking care of you, allows you to take care of others or do a better job at whatever career you have, or the other things that you have in your life that are goals or things like that. So that was the first thing.

The second thing was to kind of share and talk about what the morning routine consists of because everybody's morning routine is different. There's actually a book out there called Miracle Morning. Yup. That we have both read. Yeah. And it gives you an example of a routine. I found that somebody else's routine is not necessarily something I'm going to embrace and keep up with because I don't embrace it. Right. I ultimately had to come up with mine. And so I'm a checklist type person to make sure that I do it because I want to feel good that I did it. I also want to hold myself accountable to doing it. Otherwise, it's very easy to go, I'm going to do all these things and then forget one of them or two of them. And pretty soon you're just not doing them. So I created a big checklist that I go through every single morning, my work checklist actually says at the very top. Because I pre-plan my days, what I'm doing, my very number one thing says morning routine score. So I have to if I forgot, or if I ran out of time, I have to hold myself accountable to go in crap, I got a goose egg, or I did half of it, or whatever it is, but that's on my work list so that this prioritization of me personally doesn't lose its luster or excitement because I'm just telling myself, this is doubly important. I'm not only going to do it, I'm going to hold myself accountable of the first thing I do on the workday, so. It doesn't surprise me that you keep score. Yeah, yeah. That's just who I am.

So the checklist, it feels good to be able to check this off every single day. So I'm just gonna give you some of them because some of them are just more personal or related to me, right? And this is what you should do too. Because I add things to my morning routine all the time or change things going, Hey, I don't need to do this anymore. I think I'd like to do this. And it's mine and I embrace it. So the first one is really both of us. 5am alarm, and then. That's a dog alarm that does not have a snooze button. That's right. Yeah, so we're getting up at 5am. We used to wake up about 4:30am. And but when we moved to Florida, we just decided, hey, 5am I think is sufficient. And so we changed it. So that's our wake up time. And then we take the dogs out. I don't have that part on my checklist. I should, though, I need to check it off. Feed the dogs and take them out. You know when the hurricane was here that was a workload. Yeah, yeah, it was. And I also put on this 5am alarm, I put up no later than 7am if I need more sleep, so if there was a night that I just got a bad night's sleep, I'm giving myself enough grace, that I can still jump back into bed after taking the dogs out and feeding them and sleep until 7am. And I still feel like I'm starting the day okay. Right. And I get to check it off and feel good about myself. Because that's what you really want to do. You're promoting wins, right? You're giving yourself a positive deposits in the morning to start your off day on a positive note. So I'll go through and we're already like getting into the time. So I'll go through some of the other stuff. Obviously, I brush my teeth. There's this prepare shake that we make or drink, stretch, workout, cardio, I want all three of those done, shower, eat breakfast, vitamins and supplements, a five minute journal, where I write down three things I'm grateful for three wins for the day, and three wins for tomorrow. Sometimes that particular item is done in the evening. But I've added it to my morning to see how I feel about it in the morning, because it does put a focus, right? I pre-planned my day. But this reminds me what is it? What are those three things? And it gives me this grateful juice in the morning instead of at night. And I think both times I still have it on my morning routine and nighttime, I've left it in both.

I have some mindset stuff that I have in there that I read every single morning. Like the very first one is, I get to manage myself first, my happiness and my success is all directly linked to managing myself first every day. And that was a really important statement for me to read every single morning because I've never done it. Right. Right? I always just go to work. Yup. And you know, I'm here to build the business. I'm here to take care of other people, including our investors, and I'll give myself, you know, I'll pay myself back sometime in the future. And so that was really important for me to stop that, you know, and really put myself first, so I do a better job for everybody else.

And then there's a ton of other stuff. Read one chapter of a book, and update our nutrition doc, that's on there as well. Stephanie will be thankful that I do that every single day. And I do it because it's on this list. 10am start work. And then right underneath that is a picture that I love. It says, speak positive words into your life every single morning, think big, think healing, think success, think peace, think happiness, think growth mindset, always start the day with positive energy, you deserve it. And so those are the things that I do every single morning. And it just puts me on this like cycle of goodness, right immediately of you know, waking up. And it's been a game changer for me. So I wanted to share it because I wish somebody else would have said, Here's my morning routine and make it your own. And here's why it's so important to me, and how it sets me up for success for the rest of the day. And so I decided I'd share this today. So what's your morning routine Flip?

Well, mine's evolved over the years. You know, I mean, at one point, like you'd said, we'd done the workouts in the afternoon, and then we just would never do them. Yeah. So I keep putting my workouts back in the morning. And at one point it was a wake up. You know, as I'm getting out of bed, I'm putting on my workout clothes, and I'm just going straight to the workout room. And the dogs kind of got rid of that plan because they want them first. Yeah. They did not like me not taking care of them before going to work out. And so, so with dogs, and then it sort of evolved where I want something that when I wake up that I'm going to be excited about doing, now some people, there are these people out there that are excited about working out every day. I think they're called weirdos. Just kidding. But I'm not one of them even though we do this now and when I wake up the first thing that is in my head is not oh, I want to work out. No, it's you know what, I could just go for a cup of coffee and some sports center and you'll get me out of bed every day. Yeah. And so I get up when we feed the dogs and then I grab a cup of coffee and I sit on the couch and I watch SportsCenter and usually with the dogs because they come back to the couch and cuddle up. Yup. And it's just a nice, I like to chill morning wake up, you know, it just ease into the morning and then as soon as that coffee is done, then I go and I do the preparing, go do the, get on my workout clothes and I go workout and it's worked out for me so much better because when I wake up I'm like, I get to have coffee and SportsCenter, even on a night when there was just crap for sports on, I still enjoy watching SportsCenter. I don't know why, it's just I do. But anyway it's taken a while to get to exactly what I want. And now it's exactly what I want. Yeah.

Yeah, and I think it's important to note too, that it's okay, when you can't do your morning routine, right? There's going to be days where you can't do it. The point is, is to keep doing it as often as you can, like, this morning, we had a 8am meeting, that we had to do and by the time that we woke up and address some things that we needed to address early on, I looked at my watch, and I was like, I don't have time. It's not going to happen. And it's gonna be stressful, right? And the last thing you want to do is start my day off in stress mode. I would rather skip parts of my morning routine to again, create a winning start to my morning. Yeah, rest of the day. Yeah. So it just lifts off on a positive note, and not minding that I didn't get to work out today. But that's okay. Because I still feel good. And I will work out tomorrow. That's right. So I think these things are really, you know, game changers, right? Um, if you just go after it, and don't, don't get too critical of yourself as you're trying to figure out what your perfect routine is. But the Miracle Morning book is a good book to read too. Yeah. It helped out develop that process. It sure did.
